‘Best thing they did was to get rid’ – Pundit blasts player Spurs recently sold

Tottenham Hotspur have continued to revamp their squad over the past two transfer windows under Ange Postecoglou.

One of the more recent departees from North London was Hugo Lloris, who sealed a move to MLS outfit LAFC.

The former French international was a mainstay in the Tottenham side up until this season appearing in 446 matches and keeping 151 clean sheets across all competitions (transfermarkt).

Former Spurs player Garth Crooks has claimed that the club should have sold the 37-year-old sooner and sanctioning his exit is the best thing they have done for a long time.

Guglielmo Vicario is a worthy successor to Hugo Lloris

Tottenham pulled off a shrewd piece of transfer business in the summer with the arrival of Guglielmo Vicario to replace Lloris as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper for what is proving to be a bargain £17.2m fee from Serie A outfit Empoli (Sky Sports).

Crooks wrote for BBC Sport when naming Vicario in his team of his week for his performance in Tottenham’s 4-0 win against Aston Villa on Sunday: “I’ve said on a numerous occasions the best thing they did was to get rid of keeper Hugo Lloris – and it should have happened years ago.

Hugo Lloris was a brilliant servant to Tottenham and could have been playing Champions League football year after year in his prime, however, he remained loyal and instead continued his career in N17.

Unfortunately for Lloris, Premier League football has evolved with a heavy reliance on the goalkeeping being comfortable with the ball at his feet; something the Frenchman struggled with and instead relying on his shot-stopping ability.

Vicario is a modern keeper for the current age, while Lloris felt more of an analogue option in digital times.
