The race for Lucas Bergvall’s signature could heat up even further over the coming days and weeks after the midfielder expressed his desire to leave Tottenham.

Even though Roberto De Zerbi has informed Bergvall that he is a key part of his plans, it appears that the midfielder remains unconvinced.

According to a recent update by Sky Sports, the Tottenham midfielder remains keen on a fresh challenge away from N17, and he is prioritising getting regular game time in his favoured number eight role.

One can understand why Bergvall may feel he is unlikely to do so at Spurs, with the Swede having started just one of De Zerbi’s seven league games in charge of the club.

Additionally, he now has further competition to contend with from new signings Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

Aston Villa could enter the race for Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall

Several outlets have claimed over recent days that Nottingham Forest have expressed a firm interest in Bergvall, but journalist Pete O’Rourke has now revealed they could face a challenge from a Premier League rival.

O’Rourke claimed that Aston Villa have been long-term admirers of the 20-year-old and are keeping an eye on the developments over his future.

When asked about the speculation over Bergvall’s future, the journalist told Football Insider: “I’m sure Tottenham don’t want to keep a player who is unhappy and has indicated that he is interested in a move away.

“Nottingham Forest have shown a bit of interest in him as a potential replacement for Elliot Anderson, and Aston Villa are long-term admirers of Bergvall as well.”

Bergvall is attracting plenty of interest from across Europe

It is not just Premier League clubs who are keen on securing the Tottenham youngster, with the Swede also attracting a lot of interest from the continent.

Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Napoli and Inter Milan are all reported to be fans of Bergvall, with the German duo named as his ‘strongest admirers’.

Reports in the Italian press over the last couple of weeks have suggested that AC Milan see the Tottenham midfielder as a ‘perfect fit’ for their project.

Tottenham are said to want around £45m if they do part ways with Bergvall this summer.
