Chris Waddle has reacted to the signings that Tottenham Hotspur have made this summer and what the club’s objectives should be next campaign.
Despite coming so close to being relegated from the Premier League last season, the Lilywhites have surprised many observers by poaching some of the best talents in the division.
Not only have they broken their transfer record twice on Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, but they saw off competition from Champions League clubs to land those players.
That is partly down to Roberto De Zerbi’s powers of persuasion, with many of Spurs’ new signings admitting that the Italian convinced them of the ambition of the project.

Not everyone is convinced that Spurs have made the right decisions this summer, with Simon Jordan insisting that the Tottenham hierarchy do not know what they are doing.
However, Waddle has been impressed by the club’s summer business, admitting that he is pleased to see the Lilywhites move away from signing youngsters with potential to Premier League-proven players.
The Tottenham legend told OLBG: “Spurs have bought well, De Zerbi is adding quality with proven top-flight stars. They’ve brought in Andy Robertson and Jan-Paul Van Hecke from Brighton, who has been in the Premier League for the last two or three years, he probably deserves the move. You’ve also got Mohamed Kudus coming back.
“With the team fit, I’m sure they’ll be looking to add another striker. You’ve got Robertson, an experienced player from Liverpool. When you look at the squad he’s building now, he’s adding quality.
“He’s bringing in players who have already proven themselves in the Premier League. They can hold their own, and they’re starting to build around that rather than just buying players with potential, as they have done over the last two years.”

Expectations of the Tottenham fan base are as low as they have been for a decade and a half, given that the Lilywhites are coming off two consecutive 17th-place finishes.
However, Waddle believes that as long as Spurs add a decent goalscorer and more creativity to their squad, they can be back in the top six again next season.
He added: “Spurs can finish in the top six if they can keep it up over an entire season. Now he just needs to add those fine margins, a bit more skill, creativity, and goalscoring. I think that’s what he’ll add to this team with the right signings. There’s no reason why Tottenham can’t finish in the top six if they keep building on what they’re doing.”
