Djed Spence has seen his stock rise considerably over the last few weeks in light of his performances at the World Cup, but not everyone is convinced about the Tottenham man’s qualities.
Spence delivered another fine performance against Kylian Mbappe and co, as England overcame France 6-4 in the third-place playoff at Miami Stadium on Sunday.
It brings to an end an excellent tournament for the full-back, which is why many Tottenham fans do not want to see the 25-year-old sold.
However, an exit from N17 is very much on the cards for the defender, with Spurs and Inter Milan locked in talks over a deal for Spence over the last few days.
Inter Milan are not fully convinced about Tottenham’s Djed Spence
A report in TuttoMercatoWeb (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now revealed that there are doubts over whether Spence is the right fit for Inter.
The outlet says that having missed out on Marco Palestra to Chelsea, last season’s Scudetto winners want to sign a right-back who has experience but also potential.
That is why they have turned to Spence, but there are question marks about the Tottenham man, including the fact that he failed to light up Serie A during his loan spell with Genoa a few years ago.
It is pointed out that Genoa even refused to activate a €10m (£8.5m) purchase clause for the full-back following his loan.
The fact that Spence has not been able to make himself first choice over Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie in North London has not gone unnoticed in Milan either.
Spurs’ asking price for Spence questioned
TMW also point to the full-back’s lack of goals and assists, and question if he has the quality to replace Denzel Dumfries’ output in attack over the last few years.
It is pointed out that while the Dutchman is departing for just €20m (£17m) despite being a proven performer at the highest level, Tottenham value Spence even higher at €30m (£25.5m).
The report adds that the Nerazzurri are exploring alternatives for the Spurs man, including Nottingham Forest’s Dan Ndoye.
