Tottenham Hotspur have begun work to sign an experienced Serie A centre-back who Roberto De Zerbi is a big fan of, despite existing links with Jan Paul van Hecke.
Reports indicate that Spurs are optimistic about agreeing a deal for Jan Paul Van Hecke, who is set to reunite with De Zerbi at Hotspur Way.
The Dutch centre-back is expected to be the man to replace Cristian Romero, who continues to be heavily linked with a departure from Tottenham.
Additionally, Marcos Senesi is also expected to seal a switch to Tottenham and bolster De Zerbi’s options at centre-back. However, it has been revealed that the Italian wants to add one more top-class defender to his squad.

Tottenham have begun talks over a deal for Gleison Bremer
TuttoSport have now revealed that Tottenham have set their sights on Juventus defender Gleison Bremer, whose future at the Allianz Stadium is uncertain.
In fact, the report claims that Bremer is at the top of De Zerbi’s wishlist, and that Spurs have already begun discussions with Juve regarding the player.
The 29-year-old is said to be open to a new challenge after four years with the Bianconeri and not ‘averse’ to the prospect of a change of scenery.
In fact, it is alleged that the centre-back is ‘intrigued’ by the Premier League and the prospect of playing for De Zerbi, and is currently waiting to see how discussions between Spurs and the Old Lady develop.
Spurs could make part-exchange offer for Bremer
TuttoSport say that Bremer has a release clause of €58m (£50m) in his contract, which is valid until August 10.
Juve have made it clear that an offer has to match the clause or come very close to it in order to prise the Brazilian away from Turin.
Interestingly, the website adds that Tottenham are considering offering Guglielmo Vicario to Juve as part of the deal to bring down the cost of the operation.
