Dejan Kulusevski’s latest injury update is exactly what Tottenham fans wanted to see

Dejan Kulusevski has shared another encouraging glimpse of his recovery from a long-term knee injury as the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder edges closer to returning to action.

Dejan Kulusevski has not played a competitive match for club or country since suffering a serious patella injury in his right knee in early May 2025. More than a year has passed since that setback, with the Swede enduring a frustrating rehabilitation that has included multiple setbacks.

The 26-year-old made no secret of his ambition to return in time for the World Cup, but those hopes were eventually ended as his recovery took longer than expected. Given his doctor described the injury as complicated and ‘difficult to treat‘, there were even understandable questions over whether Kulusevski would ever return to the pitch.

Since arriving from Juventus in January 2022, Kulusevski has registered 55 goal involvements in 146 appearances for Tottenham. He was arguably Spurs’ standout performer before suffering the injury, and his absence was felt throughout a campaign that saw the club narrowly avoid relegation. His latest social media activity, however, offers supporters another reason for optimism.

Dejan Kulusevski takes another major step in his Tottenham recovery

For much of the past year, Kulusevski’s social media updates showed him on crutches or working through the early stages of his rehabilitation.

Supporters were therefore delighted when he shared footage of himself jogging outdoors last month before later posting clips of himself playing basketball with friends. While there was still some visible weight put on around the injured knee, the progress was obvious.

A few days ago, Kulusevski uploaded another video showing himself back on a football pitch, completing passing drills, ball control exercises and simple finishing work alongside a personal coach.

And his latest Instagram story represents another huge step forward. The Sweden international shared several clips of himself striking powerful efforts into the top corner with both feet, looking comfortable striking through the ball once again.

Dejan Kulusevski’s market value has taken a huge hit

Kulusevski’s lengthy spell on the sidelines has inevitably affected his market value.

Last month, we reported that no Premier League player has seen a bigger drop in value over the past year. The Sweden international has fallen by €18m (£15.5m) and is now valued at around £14.5m, having previously reached a peak valuation of €50m (£42.8m) before his injury.

Those figures are unlikely to concern Tottenham supporters too much. When fully fit, Kulusevski remains one of the most creative players at the club and someone capable of changing games on his own.

While there is still work to do before he is match fit, Tottenham remain hopeful that Kulusevski will return during pre-season and be available for the start of the new campaign in August.
