Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have done plenty of groundwork to strengthen one crucial position this summer.
Roberto De Zerbi’s men have prioritised strengthening their backline first this summer ahead of the Italian’s first full season in charge.
Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson have joined Tottenham as free agents, with both players adding plenty of experience and know-how to the Lilywhites backline.
According to reports, Spurs are now getting closer and closer to landing Jan Paul van Hecke, who has worked with De Zerbi at Brighton in the past.

Tottenham expected to be ‘busy with midfielders’ this summer
Fabrizio Romano has now indicated that Spurs will prioritise strengthening the middle of the park next, with the club having already held talks over deals for midfielders.
He claimed that this will be a ‘summer of midfielders’, with three other Premier League giants also looking for quality additions in the central areas.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “There are things to clarify on midfielders. I think it’s been four or five months, I’ve been telling you here on my YouTube channel it’s going to be a summer of midfielders.
“Man United will be busy, Man City will be busy, Arsenal will be busy. There are more clubs, also Tottenham will be busy with midfielders. Don’t forget Tottenham in these conversations. So, for sure, there is going to be movement in England around midfielders.”
Spurs sweating on Joao Palhinha’s decision
Reports indicate that Joao Palhinha is now set to decide between returning to Sporting Lisbon or Tottenham after both clubs expressed interest in the 30-year-old.
De Zerbi has made no secret of the fact that he wants Palhinha at Spurs next season, with the Italian now waiting to see if he will get his wish.
One would expect the former Fulham man’s decision to have a big bearing on how many midfielders Tottenham sign and who they target.
