Dutch football expert expects Spurs target to move this summer

While Spurs have been linked with Real Betis’ Giovani Le Celso and Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele in recent days (The Mirror), Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek was also linked heavily earlier in the window (Metro).

The 22-year-old midfielder has had a sensational season for Ajax, scoring 17 goals in all competitions including a goal against Tottenham in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final in North London.

Van de Beek’s performances have reportedly attracted interest from several European clubs, and Dutch football expert Marcel van der Kraan has now suggested that the player is likely to leave Amsterdam this summer.

He said that Van de Beek prefers a move to the Premier League and that he is waiting for approaches which are likely to arrive towards the end of the window.

There has been no shortage of interest from clubs from the English top flight with scouts from Spurs, Newcastle and Liverpool among others having made the trip to the continent to cast their eye over the academy product.

Speaking to the Express, Van der Kraan said, “Indeed, van de Beek is probably the biggest chance of having a move,”

“If I had to put my money on one I’d say, Donny van de Beek will go at some stage this summer. He is a perfect back-up for many clubs. I know he’s not the number one for many clubs.

“I’ve seen scouts from Tottenham, Man Utd, Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle all at the Amsterdam ArenA looking at him. They’ve turned up no end of times looking at other players but we know from the agent the player has been looked at. They’ve all weighed him up.

“He’s an ideal player for the Premier League, he’s got the skills like most Ajax players, he’s got a big tank, he can run all day. But all these clubs have a priority list and van de Beek seems the perfect back-up for the big clubs.

“They have a No 1 but not all the clubs can sign their No 1 so van de Beek is waiting patiently. If it comes right, he’ll do it. I think he’s keen for the Premier League, more than the German or Italian leagues.”

Based on recent reports it does look like the club are prioritising Le Celso to Van de Beek but it remains to be seen if the move will materialise. With Eriksen’s future at the club also looking uncertain, the club might well return for the Ajax midfielder later in the window.
