Enzo Maresca has spoken on the future of Savinho, who missed Manchester City’s training session on Thursday amid reports that he is edging close to a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
While the Savinho negotiations between Spurs and Manchester City have been going on since the start of the summer, there are now indications that the talks may be nearing their end.
Several sources have said that Spurs are confident of sealing a deal for Savinho over the coming days, and amid these reports, the 22-year-old was not spotted training with his teammates yesterday.
Man City officially claimed that the Brazilian’s absence was down to illness, but Fabrizio Romano said the timing of the Tottenham target’s absence from training was ‘very curious’, given that he is pushing for a move to N17.

Enzo Maresca has decided to toe the company line and maintain that illness was the reason why the former Girona man did not train yesterday.
The Italian insisted that Savinho will be assessed closely before a decision is made on whether he could be involved in Sunday’s Community Shield clash against Arsenal.
Maresca said in his press confrerence (via Fabrizio Romano): “Savio was not part of the session on Thursday; he was a little bit ill. We’ll see today, the session is in the afternoon. We’ll see and we’ll decide for tomorrow’s game.”
Savinho is alleged to be in a standoff with Man City
While sources indicate that Tottenham are in a hurry to complete the deal for the 22-year-old, as the new campaign draws closer, the Manchester club appear to be in no such hurry.
In fact, according to a recent update by Globo Esporte, Spurs have now put £85m on the table for Savinho, but City are still refusing to greenlight the move.
They say that the winger is not happy with his employers’ refusal to let him go and is currently in a standoff with his club, which is why he refused to train on Thursday.
