Fabrizio Romano has revealed whether Sandro Tonali’s move to Tottenham Hotspur remains on course amid fears from Spurs fans that the deal may have fallen through.
It was reported earlier this week that Tottenham remain determined to win the race for Tonali despite seeing their opening £75m offer turned down by Newcastle.
It has been alleged that Tottenham and Newcastle are not far apart in their valuations of the Italy international, while Spurs have also held positive conversations with the midfielder’s representatives.
However, over the last few days, it has emerged that Arsenal is Tonali’s prefered destination this summer, with Spurs fans concerned about a repeat of the Eberechi Eze saga.

Fabrizio Romano urges Tottenham fans not to be worried about Sandro Tonali
What has added to the paranoia of some Spurs fans on social media is that Romano replaced the Tonali to Tottenham update as his pinned tweet on X.
However, the journalist has asked the Lilywhites faithful not to read too much into that, insisting that Spurs’ pursuit of the 26-year-old is very much on track.
Romano said on his YouTube channel: “I saw some panic on my X because of a removed pinned tweet (about Sandro Tonali). I stand by my information: Tottenham are working on a deal for Sandro Tonali.
“I am only mentioning this: Tottenham and Tonali. I know many others are mentioning many things, different situations and different clubs. I am only mentioning Tottenham and Tonali. Let’s see.”
Spurs accelerating move to land Mateus Fernandes
Amid the Tonali rumours, Tottenham are also stepping up their efforts to land another highly-rated Premier League midfielder.
Over the past few days, Spurs have been in talks with Mateus Fernandes’ agent regarding a move to N17, but the Lilywhites are facing heavy competition from Man United.
According to reports, Tottenham are hopeful that Roberto De Zerbi can play a decisive role in convincing the 21-year-old to move to Hotspur Way.
