Heung-min Son has reflected on watching his beloved Tottenham Hotspur fight to stay in the Premier League last season and has shared his hopes for the club in the upcoming campaign.
The 2025-26 season ended positively for the Lilywhites, with massive scenes of celebration at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the club avoided relegation on the final day of the season.
However, it only took a few days for the emotional high to wear off and the reality to set in regarding just how close the club came to disaster.
Roberto De Zerbi made it clear that Tottenham needed a rebuild to avoid finding themselves in a similar situation in the future, and the relegation scare appears to have shocked the club into being proactive in the transfer window.

Heung-min Son admits he partly felt responsible for Tottenham’s struggles
It would have been a strange experience for Son, who was a key part in establishing Spurs as a force in the Premier League and left on a high just 12 months ago with the Europa League victory.
The LAFC forward admitted that it was difficult to see the club he loves and his former teammates go through what they did, and revealed he felt guilty at not being able to help.
When asked how it felt watching Spurs’ struggles from afar, the former Tottenham captain told GQ: “Every week was painful to watch, and it was especially sad because last year we lifted an amazing trophy.
” It feels a little bit like it’s my fault, like they are having a tough time and like I was just running away from it. So it was really painful to watch that.”
Son confident Spurs will be better next season
The one silver lining from the disastrous season is that it has served as a warning to the Tottenham hierarchy regarding the consequences of repeating their past mistakes.
The club have already acquired Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi, and reports indicate that Spurs will continue their spending spree as they eye big changes ahead of De Zerbi’s first full season in charge.
Son, who is preparing for the World Cup with South Korea, is confident that the Lilywhites will put on a much better showing under De Zerbi next term.
When asked about the upcoming campaign, the Spurs legend said: “A new manager, a good preseason, add some new players, and I think they can find a better position and get back up top where they belong.
“As a Spurs fan, I have to keep giving the biggest support I have from the other side of the world. We just have to shout, “Come on you Spurs!” as much as we can. I still love them. They’re a big part of my heart and I wish them all the best. Next season will be better for sure.”
