There has been a new twist regarding the future of Cody Gakpo, as Tottenham eye a sensational deal to poach the Liverpool winger this summer.

Tottenham will continue their summer spending spree after their fast start to the transfer window as the Lilywhites go about rebuilding their squad after avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth last season.

It has been widely reported over the last few days that Spurs have expressed an interest in Gakpo and are trying to persuade the Liverpool winger regarding a summer switch to N17.

It subsequently emerged that the Tottenham target’s representatives are exploring opportunities elsewhere, as the Dutchman is concerned about whether he will have a prominent role under Andoni Iraola next season.

Tottenham’s pursuit of Cody Gakpo could be affected by Yan Diomande talks

TEAMtalk have now revealed that Liverpool are pushing to sign Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, and this could have an impact on Gakpo’s future at Anfield.

They reveal that discussions between the Reds and the East German club are ongoing over Diomande, with the Premier League side ‘determined’ to land the Ivorian.

This is despite Leipzig’s confidence that the 19-year-old will remain at the Red Bull Arena for one more year.

It is explained that for the moment, Liverpool are not actively looking to sell Gakpo, but the Netherlands international’s future at the club is becoming ‘increasingly uncertain’ as they continue talks over Diomande and Rio Ngumoha’s importance to the club grows.

Spurs could launch a mega offer for Gakpo

This update comes just 24 hours after The Sun claimed that Spurs are set to take a big step in their pursuit of the Liverpool winger.

The report stated that Tottenham are readying a mammoth £73.5m for Gakpo, with the Lilywhites not put off by his form last season.

The outlet added that De Zerbi’s men see the former PSV Eindhoven man as the ‘ideal’ signing for them as they embark on a rebuild.
