Tottenham and Inter Milan have made contact over a possible deal for Cristian Romero, with the Argentine keen on a switch to Italy.
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to have a new captain next season, with reports revealing that Roberto De Zerbi has opted for James Maddison as the team’s captain.
That switch could well hint at what is to come next for current club captain Cristian Romero, who has been the subject of much transfer speculation.
Several clubs remain keen on the Argentine, whose future at Spurs remains uncertain, with Barcelona and Inter Milan all said to be interested in securing his signature.
Tottenham make direct contact over Cristian Romero as Inter interest grows
It was revealed earlier this week that Romero’s entourage and Inter Milan had an imminent meeting planned.
Just yesterday, a further report stated that the Argentine’s agent had arrived in Italy. At the same time, Inter Milan director Piero Ausilio had returned to the city, with claims that a possible meeting between the parties had been scheduled.
Following those reports, Gianluigi Longari has now provided an update, claiming there have indeed been direct contacts between Inter Milan and Tottenham over Romero and that the Nerazzurri have hinted at the prospect of reaching a figure close to £34 million (€40 million) through a fixed fee and bonuses.
Longari described this stage of the saga as “hot hours”, with both Romero’s agent and Ausilio meeting in Milan. He added that there is total openness from Romero towards Inter, with the defender continuing to push strongly for the move.
His post reads: “There have already been direct contacts between Inter and Tottenham for Cuti Romero. The Nerazzurri have hinted at the prospect of reaching a figure close to 40M between fixed fee and bonuses.
“Hot hours, with the presence of the agent and Ausilio in Milan. Total openness from Cuti to Inter. Romero’s idea, revealed exclusively on the morning of July 1st for Inter, continues strongly.”

Tottenham remain very well covered at the back and could deal with the departure of the Argentine this summer.
As it stands, De Zerbi has a plethora of options he can call on, with Marcos Senesi, Micky van de Ven, Jan Paul van Hecke, Kevin Danso and Ben Davies all capable of playing at centre-back.
De Zerbi’s options are so well stacked that he could opt to field a back three at some point next season while maintaining high quality across his backline.
While many Tottenham fans have urged the club to demand more for Romero, getting £34 million (€40 million) for the centre-back, who was signed for a similar fee, would be valuable additional income that could help Spurs in their rebuild this summer.
