Tottenham Hotspur supporters have sent appreciative messages to Joao Palhinha after reports confirmed the club will not pursue a permanent move for the midfielder this summer.
Tottenham Hotspur have so far managed to strengthen both their defensive and midfield ranks during the current transfer window.
A total of £237 million has been spent on the acquisitions of Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, while Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka have arrived as free transfers.
This business has left Spurs fans excited as their club looks to rebuild following last season’s struggles, which saw them finish in 17th place.

Tottenham decide against Joao Palhinha move
It had long been reported that the signings of Tonali and Fernandes would not prevent Tottenham from making a move for Joao Palhinha.
The Portuguese midfielder was key in the Lilywhites’ fight to avoid relegation last term and, with his loan deal having expired, reports had it that Spurs were working to secure him on reduced terms.
However, with Tonali and Fernandes confirmed as Tottenham players, journalist Tom Barclay has now revealed that following these blockbuster signings, Spurs are no longer expected to make a move for Palhinha.
Barclay tweeted: “Presume most #thfc fans would have expected this, but with Tonali and Fernandes blockbuster midfield signings, understand Joao Palhinha won’t be returning to Spurs. Club going into a new era but think supporters will appreciate how Palhinha stepped up when they needed him most.”
Spurs Fans show appreciation for Palhinha
Palhinha had always been keen on returning to Spurs, while Roberto De Zerbi himself openly stated he wanted the 30-year-old to stay.
Yet with two new midfielders signed, Spurs look well covered in the middle of the park, making another move for Palhinha far from ideal.
Tottenham fans have since taken to social media to share their thoughts, with many not too displeased by the latest reports.
One fan said: “I will miss him, his passion, his love for the badge. It was worth something man.” Another added: “Thank you for keeping this club up 🫶🏻 you deserve a statue just for that.”
A third commented: “It is the right decision taking these signings into account, but he absolutely kept us up. Forever a Spurs legend for doing so.” The tributes continued, with another fan writing: “Was there with us when we were in the trenches. Will never forget you Legend 🤍.”
One supporter sent his thanks: “Thank you Joao Palhinha for saving us from relegation. Your service will always be remembered.” A final message kept it brief: “Expected. Thanks for everything boss.”
Sporting CP have since shown interest in Palhinha and, with Tottenham no longer in the race, the 30-year-old could now return to his homeland.
