Lucas Bergvall spoke to the Swedish media about his future at Tottenham this week, and fans are surely going to read between the lines.

Bergvall has not started any of Sweden’s matches at the World Cup so far, but he played the majority of their 1-1 draw with Japan, having come on as a 36th-minute substitute to replace the injured Isak Hien.

That result was enough for Sweden to seal a third-place finish in Group F with four points and progress to the knockout stages of the tournament.

There have been some major developments over the 20-year-old club’s future over recent weeks, with reports indicating that Bergvall has informed Tottenham that he wants to leave this summer.

Lucas Bergvall refuses to confirm Tottenham stay

The midfielder spoke to the Swedish media following their draw with Japan, and he batted away questions about his club future, insisting that he is focused fully on the World Cup.

When quizzed about the ongoing speculation about his future, Bergvall told Fotbollskanalen: “As I said: I’m fully focused on the World Cup.”

When pressed on whether his agent has been in contact with Tottenham, the midfielder responded: “I’m fully focusing on the World Cup. I’m here with Sweden, and we’re going to try to make a good impression in the U.S. Whatever happens after that, we’ll deal with it then. It’s been a tough season, as I said. But now the focus is on the World Cup and being here.”

These words certainly do not sound like those of a player who is keen to be part of Roberto De Zerbi’s project in N17.

Interest growing in Bergvall’s services

Unsurprisingly, the Tottenham man is not short of admirers, with reports over recent days indicating that Nottingham Forest have expressed a firm interest in Bergvall.

It has also been claimed that AC Milan see the Spurs midfielder as the ‘ideal’ addition to their midfield.

However, journalist Christian Falk has insisted that Bayern Munich are not exploring a move for Bergvall despite reports linking the Swede with a move to Bavaria.
