The race for Sandro Tonali’s future could have a few more twists and turns over the coming weeks as Tottenham remain keen.

Tottenham had a £75m offer turned down last week for Tonali, but reports over recent days have indicated that Spurs remain in talks with Newcastle over the midfielder.

Several sources have suggested that the 26-year-old has already said ‘yes’ to Tottenham, but the situation could get complicated, with other clubs also thought to be fans of the Italian.

A couple of days ago, it was revealed by BBC Sport that Arsenal have spoken to Tonali’s representatives to discover the conditions of a potential deal, and it turns out they are not the only big club that could attempt a hijack.

Man City have been in regular talks with Tottenham target Sandro Tonali

The Telegraph have now revealed that although Spurs have done the early running in the race for the Magpies star, Man City have also been in regular contact with the player.

In fact, it is revealed that City have been in talks with Tonali’s representatives for over a year.

The Manchester club have asked to be kept informed about the former AC Milan midfielder, with sources at Newcastle expecting them to step up their interest.

Tonali is aware of City’s interest, and while he is ‘intrigued’ by Spurs, he will have a big decision to make if Enzo Maresca’s men enter the race.

Newcastle expect Tonali to leave

While it may be unclear where the midfielder is headed, it appears that a departure from St James’ Park is a certainty.

The Telegraph say Newcastle have been working under the assumption that Tonali will depart the club this summer, and have already explored potential replacements.

The publication backs up what other outlets have claimed over recent weeks by asserting that Eddie Howe’s men want around £100m for the 26-year-old.
