Tottenham Hotspur have received some very good news in their efforts to win the race for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali.

It has been widely reported that Spurs already have an agreement in place with Tonali, and the Lilywhites are now pushing to agree a fee with Newcastle United.

However, the threat of a hijack remains, with reports indicating that Newcastle expect Man City to step up their interest in the 26-year-old over the next few days.

Additionally, Arsenal have spoken to Tonali’s representatives as well as the entourage of his Newcastle teammate, Bruno Guimaraes, which threatens to complicate matters for the Lilywhites.

Boost for Tottenham as Arsenal no longer prioritising Sandro Tonali deal

TEAMtalk have now handed Spurs a major boost in their pursuit of the Italy international by revealing Arsenal’s latest plans.

The report claims that the Gunners are now prioritising a move for Guimaraes over his Newcastle teammate, despite also holding talks with Tonali’s camp. Arsenal have received encouragement from the Brazilian’s entourage and are now ready to push ahead with a move.

Mikel Arteta’s side are now ‘increasingly confident’ of securing a deal for Guimaraes, which potentially simplifies the Lilywhites’ path towards landing Tonali.

What Man City are thinking about Spurs’ pursuit of Tonali

TEAMtalk say that Man City are also in a similar dilemma, having held talks with both Newcastle midfielders over recent weeks.

City initially believed they were well placed to win the race for Tonali, but Tottenham’s aggressive pursuit of the Italian has caught them by surprise.

Spurs’ significant progress in the Tonali deal, and the Italian’s openness to moving to N17, have prompted both Arsenal and Man City to increasingly focus on Guimaraes instead.
