Pape Matar Sarr’s future at Tottenham Hotspur continues to be the subject of much speculation as the Lilywhites step up their squad rebuild.
Spurs have already raised £113m from player sales this summer, with Will Larkehear following the likes of Alejo Veliz, Alfie Devine, Luka Vuskovic and Radu Dragusin out of the door.
Reports indicate that Cristian Romero, Djed Spence, Lucas Bergvall, Richarlison and Guglielmo Vicario could also leave Tottenham before the start of the new campaign, as De Zerbi continues rebuilding the squad he inherited.
However, we have heard precious little over recent weeks regarding the future of another midfielder, who was expected to be put on the shop window.
Tottenham are facing a big Pape Sarr transfer problem
It was claimed earlier this summer that Pape Sarr had been made available for sale by Tottenham after the midfielder struggled to get starts under Roberto De Zerbi towards the end of last season.
However, unlike some of the names mentioned above, the Tottenham midfielder does not appear particularly close to sealing a move away from N17.
Journalist George Sessions has now revealed on Last Word on Spurs that Tottenham could be facing a big challenge in their efforts to move the Senegal international on, especially in comparison to Bergvall.
Sessions claimed that as things stand, no club is willing to pay Spurs a ‘decent price’ for Sarr, although the journalist does not reveal what Tottenham’s valuation of the player is.
The journalist said: “Yeah, Pape Sarr. I mean I expect him to go, but there’s it’s been very quiet on him.
I kind of wonder, with Lucas Bergal going, is that partly because he is the sellable asset, and there’s just not that much interest in Pape?
“It’s a funny one because again, he’s a player that you know, two or three years ago, was the sort of the next big thing. You had a brilliant sort of breakout season in Ange’s first season, wasn’t it? He did very, very well and then has just not kicked on since then.
“I think if they got a good offer for him, I think they’d accept it, but I wonder if he maybe does stick around just because there isn’t anyone willing to pay a decent price.”
Roberto De Zerbi did not name Sarr in his travelling squad for Tottenham’s pre-season tour, with both the Senegal midfielder and Rodrigo Bentancur being given extra time off. Perhaps this could be because Sarr is exploring possible moves away from North London.
Sarr could be the subject of late transfer offers
At the start of the summer window, it was reported that Brentford have expressed an interest in the 23-year-old Spurs man, but that story has died down since.
Last month, it emerged that Napoli had set their sights on Sarr, but it does not appear as if the Serie A club have substantiated their interest in the player either.
These stories suggest that the midfielder is indeed on the radar of a few clubs, and may be the subject of late interest. However, whether Tottenham will get the money they are looking for for the former Metz man remains to be seen.
