Report: Spurs pull the plug on rumoured transfer target

Youri Tielemans was an impressive loan signing for Leicester in the second half of the 18/19 Premier League season. Tielemans made a total of 13 appearances for the Foxes, managing 3 goals and 5 assists.

Leicester were obviously keen on resigning the midfielder on a permanent basis and Tottenham were also said to be tracking the midfielder’s availability following his return to parent club, Monaco (Express).

However, now, Football Insider are reporting that the £40 million valuation for Tielemans has put Spurs off a potential deal for the Belgian international. Despite Spurs’ lack of depth in midfield it seems that they are unwilling to match Monaco’s asking price.

The Express have now reported that this will allow Manchester United to pursue the midfielder. It is believed that Tielemans could be brought into Old Trafford as a direct replacement for French midfielder Paul Pogba, who may be on his way out of Manchester this summer.

Tielemans himself has discussed his future since the end of his loan spell at Leicester, revealing he is close to a move away from Monaco.

He said to Sky Sports earlier this month: “We’ll see which club it will be,

“The only thing I can say is things are moving.

A lot of clubs have shown interest. We will see in the next few weeks who it will be.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tielemans’ comments bode well for those pursuing his services. With the Belgian clearly open to a move I find it surprising that we are not more strongly linked with the midfielder.

The £40 million price tag seems fair to me. Tielemans adapted brilliantly to life in the Premier League and his long range of passing would be a great asset at Spurs. Although we remain strongly interested in Tanguy Ndombele, Tielemans represents a good alternative should a deal for Ndombele fail to materialise.
