Roberto De Zerbi has explained the factors that he and the Tottenham recruitment team carefully considered before finalising the club’s attacking targets.
De Zerbi has already confirmed that Spurs will pursue their top attacking targets over the remaining weeks of the transfer window, and have no intention of settling for a backup option.
The Tottenham boss has also teased fans by saying another transfer “bomba” is on its way, adding that the Lilywhites are only 60 per cent of the way through their objectives this window.
He has now explained why the club have been very careful in identifying the right attacking profiles for the squad and his system.

The Italian revealed that it is not just a case of signing the most talented wingers on the market but identifying who fits best into the current Tottenham set-up.
He insisted that Spurs boast four of the best full-backs in the world and added that they have identified wingers that will complement the attributes of their full-backs.
De Zerbi told Football.London: “No two players are the same. A winger can be a very wide winger, one able to come inside, a winger without a full-back, a winger able to play with the full-back.
“We have four great full-backs at the moment, maybe the four most important full-backs in the world, because I think Pedro Porro is the best right-back in the world, with Udogie, Robertson, and Djed Spence can play right and left.
“Before bringing in a winger, we have to consider the full-back, because we start from the full-back, from the player we already have, no?”
De Zerbi admits Spurs want to add goalscorers
The Tottenham boss also made it clear that the club are prioritising attacking targets who can create and score goals, identifying that as an area that the Lilywhites need to improve in.
He continued: “And then we have to consider the number of goals. We have to increase the number of goals with the play, with the quality of the play, with the midfielders, the attackers, but we have to bring in players able to score goals. We have to think about the set pieces, increase also the height.”
The 46-year-old confessed that he is enjoying the process of finding and signing the right players as we enter the final month of the transfer window.
De Zerbi added: “The idea in the transfer market is 24 hours per day you think what is the best player to put inside. I love working in the transfer market. It’s not a pressure, it’s one of the nicest parts of my job.”
