Johan Lange and Roberto De Zerbi have made statements following the signing of Andy Robertson as Tottenham kick off their summer rebuild.

Tottenham Hotspur have completed their first piece of business of the summer transfer window with the signing of former Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson.

The Scotland international arrives in N17 after nine trophy-filled years at Anfield, where he won every major honour available, including the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, FA Cup and EFL Cup.

He is expected to bring a wealth of experience to the Tottenham backline as the club looks to rebuild following a dreadful Premier League campaign, which saw Spurs finish 17th – just two points above the relegation zone.

Robertson officially joins Tottenham Hotspur on July 1 following the completion of his move, as Spurs Web reported earlier. The deal marks the club’s first signing of the summer under Roberto De Zerbi.

Tottenham confirm Andy Robertson transfer as Johan Lange speaks out

Sporting Director Johan Lange spoke about what Robertson will bring to Tottenham, praising both his quality and leadership after the club confirmed the transfer.

Speaking via the club’s official website, Lange said: “We are delighted to welcome Andy to the club.

“First and foremost, he is an outstanding left-back – one of the best of all time in the Premier League, and someone who will improve our squad.

“In addition, his quality, character and leadership have been evident throughout a career in which he has regularly competed for – and won – major honours.

“Andy’s professionalism and commitment will also be invaluable to the development of our squad, and he shares our ambition and determination to bring success back to the Club.

“We are excited for Andy’s new chapter with us and look forward to having him here after the World Cup.”

Andy Robertson can become a key leader for Tottenham

Robertson’s experience is something Tottenham are certain to benefit from as he joins a young side still developing under De Zerbi.

During his time at Liverpool, he grew into a leader and was appointed vice-captain ahead of his final season at Anfield. He also captains Scotland, having worn the armband since September 2018.

Head coach De Zerbi also spoke about the impact Robertson can have at Tottenham, highlighting his mentality and leadership qualities.

Speaking via the club’s official website, De Zerbi said: “Andy is someone I’ve admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team.

“He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch.

“I cannot wait to start working with him and seeing the positive impact he will have on everyone around him.”
