Tottenham Hotspur have now officially announced the capture of Andy Robertson as their rebuild gets underway under Roberto De Zerbi.

The expectation was that Spurs’ deal for Robertson would accelerate once they secured their place in the Premier League with a win over Everton on the final day.

However, it then emerged that Juventus were looking to hijack Tottenham’s move for the Liverpool man.

The Serie A giants have failed in their efforts to force themselves into the running, with Fabrizio Romano giving his ‘here we go’ seal of approval for the left-back’s move to Spurs last month.

Andy Robertson is officially a Tottenham Hotspur player

It has now been confirmed by Spurs that Robertson has joined the Lilywhites on a free transfer after his contract at Liverpool came to an end.

The experienced left-back arrives in North London following a glittering nine-year career at Anfield, where he won the Premier League title twice, the Champions League and several other major accolades.

Robertson will not only bring a winning mentality to N17, but he will also add experience and know-how to a young squad, as De Zerbi looks to take the Lilywhites back near the top end of the table.

With Robbo currently embarking on World Cup preparations with Scotland, Tottenham turned to Michael Dawson for the official announcement video – Robertson’s old teammate and captain from their Hull City days.

Why Robertson is a smart addition during Spurs’ rebuild

Speaking to the club’s official channel, Tottenham CEO Vinai Venkatesham admitted that the Spurs squad is lacking in leadership and physical robustness.

While Robertson may not improve De Zerbi’s starting eleven as a player, he will help address both of those issues, with the 32-year-old being a natural leader and having an excellent fitness record.

With Ben Davies’ contract running out, the Scotland international may be the perfect option to take over the leadership vacuum left by the long-serving Welshman.
