Roberto De Zerbi has told Tottenham Hotspur to sign a specific kind of player this summer due to fears that the Lilywhites may suffer another injury crisis next season.

According to reports, Spurs want to sign five more players this summer after concluding the signings of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on free transfers.

That includes a new winger and a striker, with Randal Kolo Muani’s loan spell having ended and Richarlison expected to depart Tottenham this summer.

It has now been revealed that the Lilywhites also want to add another specific kind of player to their forward line this summer ahead of the Italian’s first full season in charge.

Roberto De Zerbi wants to add a versatile forward to the Tottenham squad

Sky Sports have revealed that the former Brighton boss wants to add another forward to his Tottenham squad, who can be versatile enough to operate across the front three.

The report says that the Spurs boss wants such a versatile option so that he will have more flexibility in the event of an emergency.

De Zerbi believes that a versatile attacker would come in handy for the North London club if they suffer another injury crisis as bad as the ones they have had over the last two seasons.

Spurs already have a versatile forward in their squad

It is understandable why De Zerbi wants to be cautious and future-proof the squad against injuries, given the issues the club have had over the last couple of years.

However, one can argue that Spurs already have such an option in their squad in the form of Mathys Tel, who showed plenty of promise towards the end of last season.

Reports indicate that Tottenham are in talks over selling Tel for around £30m to £40m, but one can argue that the Frenchman has the attributes to be groomed into the kind of versatile attacker that De Zerbi wants.
