Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed which positions Roberto De Zerbi wants to strengthen at Tottenham ahead of his first full season in charge.

The Lilywhites have made a fast start to the summer by securing Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson on a free transfer, but there is still a lot more work to be done.

It has been reported that Tottenham are expected to continue their spending spree over the coming weeks, as they eye a major rebuild of the squad following two successive 17th-place finishes.

Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein both say Spurs have now agreed a £52m fixed fee to sign Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton.

It has emerged over recent days that the Lewis family are expected to inject further capital into Spurs to aid the club’s efforts to strengthen their squad.

Tottenham are expected to make five more signings this summer

Journalist Ben Jacobs has now revealed that the North Londoners want to make a total of seven signings this summer, including the two players they have already brought through the door.

He revealed that De Zerbi wants to strengthen in goal, at centre-back, in midfield, at left-wing, and upfront, before next season gets underway.

Jacobs said on The Last Word on Spurs: “7 signings expected for Tottenham, including ones through the door. Looking at a new goalkeeper, centre-back, Palhinha or another midfielder, left winger and a forward.”

Could Spurs land another midfielder in addition to Joao Palhinha?

Tottenham are continuing to haggle over a deal to sign Joao Palhinha amid competition from Sporting Lisbon and other European clubs.

Interestingly, Fabrizio Romano said last week that Spurs “will be busy with midfielders” this summer. A couple of days ago, Romano added that Tottenham want to do “something important in midfield” and are currently working on doing so.

The Italian words seem to suggest that Palhinha may not be the only midfielder to arrive through the door at N17, with De Zerbi’s men potentially also plotting another major addition in the middle of the park.
