Amid reports of a second Tottenahm Hotspur offer for Sandro Tonali, the midfielder appears to have taken matters into his own hands.

It has been widely reported that Tonali has already agreed to join Tottenham, but the hard part for the Lilywhites appears to be reaching an agreement with Newcastle United.

Spurs had a £80m bid for Tonali turned down by Newcastle last week, and they have allegedly now made an improved offer.

This is according to journalist Alfredo Pedulla, who revealed on Friday evening that Tottenham had returned with an offer of over £100m for the Italy international.

Sandro Tonali informs Newcastle of his desire to join Tottenham

TEAMtalk say that Spurs have been ‘working hard behind the scenes’ on a move for the former AC Milan man, and they have now made ‘significant progress’.

Their latest boost comes via the player himself, with Tonali informing Newcastle that he wants to complete a move to Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

As a result, Spurs are now ‘increasingly confident’ they can find a route to strike a full agreement with the Magpies.

The outlet adds that Tonali has ‘clearly communicated’ his desire to join Spurs, and this has encouraged the North Londoners to continue pushing ahead with negotiations to find a solution.

Spurs could still face competition from Tonali

However, TEAMtalk have not ruled out the possibility of the race for the midfielder intensifying over the coming days and weeks.

They say that Tonali was on Man City’s radar earlier this summer while Arsenal are also keeping a close eye on developments and have not ruled out entering the race.

These updates come just hours after BBC Sport reported that the Gunners had held exploratory talks with Tonali’s camp as well as the entourage of his teammate, Bruno Guimaraes.
