New Tottenham Hotspur signing Mykhailo Mudryk faces a sustained spell on the sidelines after picking up an ankle injury.

Spurs have signed Mudryk on loan with an option to buy for £75m, and he made his debut against Nottingham Forest, coming on as a late substitute.

Roberto De Zerbi has said that the winger could be at the right age to explode at N17, but the 25-year-old has suffered a serious setback just over a week after his move to North London.

It emerged on Wednesday that Mudryk has picked up an ankle injury, and it was initially suggested that it would keep him out of action until the international break, but it turns out the injury is more serious.

Mykhailo Mudryk could miss seven games for Tottenham

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that the new Tottenham signing faces six to eight weeks on the sidelines, which comes as a big blow to Roberto De Zerbi’s men.

With Wilson Odobert out with a long-term injury, Mathys Tel is currently the only other natural left-winger at the Spurs boss’ disposal.

If Mudryk does miss eight weeks of action, here are the seven matches that he would miss for the North Londoners:

Why this is a serious blow for Mudryk’s hopes of relaunching his career at Spurs

While Mudryk was reportedly working hard on his fitness during his doping ban, he was always going to need some time to get match fit and find his rhythm.

This injury thus seriously sets him back, and we may not see the best of the pacy winger until the turn of the year.

The likes of Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert could be back by then, and Spurs could strengthen their forward line further in January.

This injury thus comes as a serious blow to the Ukrainian’s hopes of getting regular game time and relaunching his career at Spurs.
