Tom Holland – ‘I’d rather Tottenham lift the Premier League over me winning an Oscar’

Tom Holland has revealed he would sacrifice arguably the biggest individual honour in acting if it meant seeing Tottenham Hotspur end their decades-long wait for a Premier League title.

One would have to go all the way back to the 1960-61 season for the last time Spurs won the English top-flight title.

That was about 65 years ago, and many fans will be hoping to see that six-decade wait come to an end, just as the club’s near two-decade wait for silverware ended during Ange Postecoglou‘s second season as manager.

The celebrations and memories of that Europa League triumph will surely have stayed with many supporters, and the hope for many is that the winning culture remains.

Spurs seemed to have stepped away from that path after last season’s struggles, when they finished 17th in the Premier League, escaping relegation only by the skin of their teeth.

They will now be hoping to improve on that campaign this season under Roberto De Zerbi, who is taking charge of Spurs for his first full season.

Tottenham fan Tom Holland has now revealed the lengths he would go to in order to see Spurs win the Premier League title, admitting he would sacrifice winning an Oscar if it meant Tottenham were crowned champions.

Speaking in an interview with The Times, Holland was asked which achievement he would rather experience.

When asked what he would rather have, he replied: “Are you a Tottenham fan?

“Wow, I’m going to say I’d rather us win the Premier League. That would be amazing and I’d get to share that with my brother, with my friends. You know, if you are ever lucky enough to win an Oscar, you get to share that with the people you made the movie with.

“Obviously I would be honoured and I do not want to belittle that achievement in any way, shape or form, but I think it is probably more of a miracle Tottenham winning the Premier League.

“I’d rather Spurs win the league over an Oscar.”

Spurs backed to improve under Roberto De Zerbi

Spurs have shown ambition in the summer transfer market so far, securing the services of six players and spending a whopping £237 million.

That has left many Tottenham fans excited about the club’s chances next season, including Harry Redknapp.

The former Spurs manager expects vast improvement this term under De Zerbi, although he does not expect Tottenham to win the league.

Speaking about how far Tottenham can go in the league next season, Redknapp said: “I think Tottenham have made some great signings.

“I think Tottenham next year I would be surprised if they are not in the top five. I think with that squad, that manager, I think they are very, very, very capable.

“Top four, top five, I think they will be up there pushing those teams for a Champions League place, I have got no doubt about that.”
