Tottenham are now stepping up their pursuit of Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke despite growing competition from Premier League rivals.

There is no denying that Tottenham Hotspur will be aiming to strengthen their squad this summer after what has been an abysmal season so far.

Spurs are currently battling relegation, and many will believe that, should they avoid the drop this campaign, the Lilywhites will look to ensure they do not find themselves in a similar position again.

Reports have already suggested that work is being done to improve the squad. Spurs Web has reported on Tottenham’s verbal agreement with Marco Senesi and the north London club’s agreement with Robertson, deals which hinge on Spurs securing their Premier League status.

Tottenham step up Jan Paul van Hecke transfer pursuit

According to TeamTalk, Tottenham are not looking to stop there as they continue to target defensive reinforcements.

Spurs Web has already reported on Spurs’ interest in Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, and TeamTalk now claims Tottenham are preparing to intensify their pursuit of the defender.

This comes despite strong interest from both Chelsea and Liverpool, who have also made enquiries in recent weeks and are prepared to invest.

Van Hecke has been one of Brighton’s standout performers this season, helping form a defensive unit pushing for a European place. Many Spurs fans will also remember his assist against Tottenham a few weeks ago, following Kevin Danso’s error.

With competition increasing, it is understood that Roberto De Zerbi could give Tottenham an edge after previously working with the centre-back, and the connection between the pair is expected to prove decisive.

Spurs could reunite Jan Paul van Hecke with Bart Verbruggen

TeamTalk further reports that Spurs would ideally like to pair Van Hecke with Bart Verbruggen if conditions allow.

Spurs Web has already reported that Guglielmo Vicario has given the green light to Inter Milan, who are keen to secure his services this summer.

Bart Verbruggen could emerge as a replacement for the Italian, and it is now claimed that both he and Van Hecke would be open to reuniting with De Zerbi in north London.
