Tottenham Hotspur are exploring a late move for a lanky Bundesliga centre-forward, but they face competition from Man United.

After a long wait, Spurs have finally strengthened their forward line, with Savio and Omar Marmoush arriving through the door at Hotspur Way over the last few days.

Spurs fans will be hoping the pair add goals and creativity to their side, but they may not be the only two attackers to arrive this week.

Reports indicate that Tottenham could be in the market for one more forward before the September 1 deadline, and it has now emerged that they are keeping an eye on a highly-rated Croat.

Tottenham in three-horse race for Freiburg striker Igor Matanovic

It was first revealed by journalist Ben Jacobs earlier this month that Spurs are fans of Igor Matanovic, who scored 15 goals and provided four assists for Freiburg across all competitions last term.

A new report in Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now revealed that the 6ft 5in centre-forward is attracting interest from both Spurs and Man United in the final days of the window.

The report reveals that Fiorentina are also on Matanovic’s trail, having identified him as a potential replacement for Moise Kean, who is nearing a transfer to Como.

However, the outlet adds that the deal for the Croat will be difficult for the Serie A club to pull off, given the interest from the Premier League duo.

Spurs are unlikely to sign another number nine

By all accounts, Marmoush has been signed by De Zerbi to play as a central striker at Tottenham. The Egyptian made his debut there against Newcastle on Saturday. Spurs thus seem unlikely to be shopping for another number nine this summer.

However, with Man City looking likely to pip Tottenham to the signing of Cody Gakpo, it remains to be seen whether De Zerbi reverts to a transfer Plan B.

Illiman Ndiaye has also been tipped as a Spurs target this week, with Richarlison a potential makeweight in an £80m deal with Everton.
