Cody Gakpo’s future continues to be the subject of much speculation as Tottenham attempt to land the Liverpool star before the end of the transfer window.
The expectation at Spurs is that Omar Marmoush will follow Savinho from Man City to N17 very soon, but that will not be the end of the Lilywhites’ transfer business.
Roberto De Zerbi’s men are looking to have a completely new front three by September 1, with the Lilywhites preparing an offer to sign Gakpo from Liverpool.
On Monday, it emerged that Man City had also reached out to Gakpo’s representatives, with the news threatening to derail Spurs’ pursuit of the Dutchman.
Tottenham ‘still pushing’ for Cody Gakpo, Man City move deemed ‘unlikely’
According to a new update by talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, a move to the Etihad Stadium is unlikely for Gakpo at this stage of the window.
The journalist hands Tottenham an additional boost by revealing that sources in France feel Bradley Barcola is likely to end up at Anfield before the window slams shut.
The Lilywhites will be hoping that the PSG star’s arrival at Merseyside could lead to Liverpool listening to offers for Gakpo.
Crook wrote on X: “THFC still pushing to sign Cody Gakpo. Understand a move to MCFC is unlikely at this stage. LFC remain in talks with PSG for Bradley Barcola. French sources suggesting that one is more likely than unlikely between now and the transfer deadline.”
Spurs may have one major concern regarding Gakpo deal
Roberto De Zerbi had challenged Spurs to complete deals for their top targets, rather than settling for backups, and so far this summer, it appears that the club have managed to land all of the Italian’s top targets.
Getting Gakpo through the door would be the icing on the cake for Tottenham, but there may be worries in North London regarding how well the 27-year-old performed in the Reds’ Premier League opener against Newcastle.
With the Barcola deal still not very close, Gakpo could be in line to start against Nottingham Forest next Saturday, and if he scores again, Andoni Iraola’s men may change their minds on his future.
The Lilywhites may thus be ideally hoping to have a deal concluded within the next four days, but that may be out of their hands as Liverpool’s Barcola pursuit stalls.
