Tottenham enter five-horse race to sign Celtic star but it may depend on Lucas Bergvall

Tottenham Hotspur have now turned their attention to a highly-rated Celtic star, but they face plenty of competition for his signature.

Spurs have already spent £185m to bolster their midfield this summer, breaking their transfer record twice to land Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali.

However, some midfield exits are also expected from N17, with Lucas Bergvall being linked with a move away, while several sources suggest that Pape Sarr’s days at Tottenham could also be numbered.

The Lilywhites have already lost two other experienced midfielders in Yves Bissouma and Joao Palhinha, and they have now reportedly turned their attention to a Belgium international.

Tottenham in five-horse race to sign Celtic’s Arne Engels

According to Voetbal Krant, Tottenham have expressed an interest in signing Celtic midfielder Arne Engels.

After arriving at Glasgow from Augsburg back in 2024, the youngster has established himself as a mainstay in the Bhoys’ midfield, and his performances last season have attracted the attention of several clubs.

Tottenham face competition from their Premier League rivals, with Fulham and Nottingham Forest also plotting to bring Engels south of the border.

Additionally, Atlético Madrid, AS Roma, and Villarreal are all keen on securing the services of the Belgian international.

Spurs are not front-runners in the race for Engels

Voetbal Krant reveal that Roma are now planning to submit an opening offer for the versatile 22-year-old, who can also operate as a right-back or a right wing-back.

However, the club leading the race for Engels are Forest, who have identified him as the main candidate to replace Elliot Anderson.

The Tricky Trees have already submitted a bid for the central midfielder and are now ‘pushing hard’ to take him to the City Ground ahead of the new season.

Ironically, Nottingham Forest have also shown interest in signing Lucas Bergvall as their Anderson replacement. So, Bergvall’s future may end up being directly impacted by Engels this summer.
