Tottenham Hotspur supporters endured another miserable campaign in 2025/26, and the latest message from the club’s ownership has only added to the growing frustration amongst Spurs fans.

Many Tottenham Hotspur fans will be delighted that the 2025/26 season has finally come to an end, given how much the club struggled.

Spurs, who had ambitions of building on their Europa League triumph from the previous season, failed miserably and instead finished 17th for the second season running.

Not only did they finish 17th, but they also came dangerously close to losing their Premier League status after becoming embroiled in a full-on relegation battle with London rivals West Ham United. Tottenham survived by just two points ahead of the Hammers.

Following the season, the Lewis family released a statement to supporters, which read: “To the fans, As owners of 25 years, we have lived the highs and lows of Spurs with you.

“Finishing 17th this and last season does not reflect the stature or potential of this football club. We are bitterly disappointed and share your frustration. You, and we, expect more than this. We know this must never happen again.

“Our approach to running the Club is, and has been, to trust the experts to do that, while backing them to be successful. The problems we found were deeper than we realised and were allowed to build over the last few years. We know that has eroded trust and we have to win that back. As owners, we take ultimate responsibility for the situation in which the Club finds itself.

“We also take responsibility for rebuilding Spurs. Our ambition is to recapture the spirit of the Club and bring back the excitement, the fearlessness and the bold football we have always felt defined us. That means football comes first. The Board and Executive team have laid out their plans to meet this ambition.

“This will require investment – in our teams, the academy, our backroom functions and more – and we are fully committed to this. We are not selling the Club. We are all in. We are investing in it. You will see more of this in the coming months.

“We care deeply about Spurs. The rebuild the Club needs, and you deserve, has begun. The change required is deep. It will take time and commitment, but change is happening.

“We know that actions will speak louder than words. The Lewis Family”

Tottenham fans react to Lewis family statement after 17th-place finish

Spurs fans have now shared their reactions to the club’s owners’ statement, and many remain deeply frustrated.

One fan said: “A better statement than Carragher’s, but this insistence on acting like they bought the club in September is peak gaslighting lol.”

Another supporter commented: “Sounds like the sponsors have started walking away and any potential purchaser has decided to look at other clubs. Sorry ENIC, but you have had 25 years to prove yourselves. I will believe it when I start seeing it.”

A third fan demanded stronger action, stating: “Why are not loads of people being sacked? They are just blaming this all on Levy basically. F**king laughable.”

Meanwhile, another supporter added: “More spinning plates from the ENIC PR machine – do not be fooled, they have been doing this spin for years. Nothing will change!”

Calls for action continued, with one fan writing: “Spend 💰. Less talk, more action. Invest in the squad, the scouting, and the farm system. If ownership truly shares the fans’ frustration, we will see it in the moves they make this summer because right now, the drought is starting to look like another Arsenal-style banter era.”

One supporter, however, was willing to give the owners more time, saying: “In my opinion they have the summer to prove how much they are all in. After that, no more excuses.”

Spurs owners facing growing pressure from supporters

It is clear that supporters have had enough of speeches and letters that fail to bring meaningful change around the club.

Fans will continue to grow frustrated and call for the departure of the owners if their words do not match their actions.

Tottenham’s trajectory has been trending downwards since the 2019 Champions League final appearance, and with the last two seasons ending in 17th-place finishes, many will fear the worst if action is not taken swiftly.
