Tottenham Hotspur fans have delivered their verdict after reports confirmed the club have agreed an £85 million (€100m) deal for Mateus Fernandes.
Spurs are set to secure their fifth signing of the summer transfer window, having already completed deals for Andy Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke, Martin Dubravka and Marcos Senesi.
Midfield was long identified as the next area for reinforcement, with Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali earmarked as ideal targets.
It has now been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano and David Ornstein that Tottenham have agreed terms with West Ham United for Fernandes.
The Lilywhites are understood to have beaten Manchester United to the deal, with their fixed £85 million bid accepted.

Tottenham fans react to Mateus Fernandes transfer update
Tottenham fans have now taken to social media to share their reaction to the latest transfer report, with many limiting their response to just three words.
Many fans are visibly excited and have not held back in expressing their delight at having seen their club complete a record-breaking transfer this summer.
With Fernandes set to join for £85 million, Spurs could break their transfer record fee, surpassing the £65 million they paid for Dominic Solanke back in 2024.
Taking to X, reacting to the news, one fan said: “We back baby!”
Other replies included:
- “We. Are. Massive.”
- “Great. Tonali next!”
- “Shocked, delighted, nervous.”
- “Lads, it’s United!”
- “Oh my goodness.”
- “No more Archie?”
- “Winning it all.”
A final Tottenham supporter simply stated: “We are coming.”
Spurs supporters have every reason to be excited after record deal
Of course, the Lilywhite faithful have every reason to be excited, with Fernandes becoming Tottenham’s second biggest expenditure of the summer.
Jan Paul van Hecke’s £52 million move earlier in the window was the largest, but following reports of another cash injection, Spurs have gone even further with this £85 million signing.
Supporters now have reason to believe the rebuild is gathering pace, with more exciting names linked.
Sandro Tonali remains heavily linked with Spurs, with reports suggesting that Tottenham are readying a £100 million (€117m) bid as they look to beat Manchester City and Arsenal to Tonali’s signature.
