Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a Belgian international midfielder, who could be available for a cut-price fee this summer.
Spurs have already spent a combined £185m to bolster their midfield with the additions of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali this summer.
However, reports indicate that Tottenham are still looking at other midfield options, which may be down to the fact that Lucas Bergvall is expected to exit N17 this summer.
Last week, it emerged that Spurs had expressed an interest in a Celtic star, and the Lilywhites have now been handed some good news in their pursuit of the player.
Tottenham can land Arne Engels on the cheap this summer
The player in question is Arne Engels, with a new report in TEAMtalk also confirming that Spurs are showing an interest in the player.
It is revealed that the Lilywhites view the 22-year-old as a replacement for Bergvall, but they are facing intense competition for the Celtic man’s services.
Tottenham have been joined in the race for Engels by Nottingham Forest, Fulham, Sunderland, West Ham United, and Crystal Palace, with the Eagles currently in contact with Celtic over the midfielder.
The report reveals that the Scottish club are expected to demand £25m for Engels, but the Hoops may even settle for an even lower fee.
This is because Celtic are under pressure to sell the midfielder, who has just 18 months left on his contract at Glasgow.
Engels’ future could be sorted out over the next week
TEAMtalk reveal that the 22-year-old has already informed his employers of his desire to leave the club in search of a new challenge.
The interest in Engles is expected to intensify after the conclusion of the World Cup, with the player even switching his representation from Wasserman agency to DWMA in a bid to facilitate a transfer.
The website adds that the midfielder’s exit is expected to accelerate over the next week as interested parties step up their pursuit.
