Tottenham Hotspur starlet Lucas Bergvall is emerging as the subject of a major transfer battle ahead of the new season.

Bergvall is one of five more senior players expected to leave Tottenham before the start of Roberto De Zerbi’s first full season in charge.

The 20-year-old, who clean swept Tottenham’s end-of-season awards in his first season at N17, has failed to kick on in the manner the club would have hoped for, but many Spurs fans are torn about the idea of letting the Swede go, given his undoubted potential.

The Lilywhites have already rejected offers from Nottingham Forest and Newcastle for Bergvall, with the Magpies failing with a £46m bid for the young midfielder.

Fabrizio Romano reveals why Lucas Bergvall is desperate to leave Tottenham

Romano has now confirmed that the former Djurgardens man is expected to head out the door before the window slams shut.

The journalist explained that the 20-year-old does not anticipate much game time next season in North London, given Tottenham’s new midfield additions and the fact that the club have no European football.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Lucas Bergvall from Tottenham is expected to leave the club this summer. Bergvall has told Tottenham he wants to play on a regular basis, he’s ready to take a different step and leaving Tottenham this summer is something he has to do, according to the player, because he wants to play.

“At Tottenham, the feeling of the boy is that after signing Mateus Fernandes, Sandro Tonali and they’re not going to play European football, he does not want to spend the season on the bench or playing ten minutes every two weeks.”

Newcastle and Nottingham Forest are battling it out for Bergvall

Over the last 24 hours, some sources have said that Newcastle could walk away from a deal for Bergvall as they find Tottenham’s valuation to be excessive.

However, Romano has now confirmed that both the Magpies and the Tricky Trees are still at the table for the midfielder and are continuing talks with Tottenham.

He added: “For Bergvall, there’s been a bid from Nottingham Forest, talks with Newcastle and both clubs are working for Lucas Bergvall, both clubs are in contact. There is a conversation ongoing with both clubs, the situation with Lucas Bergvall is one to watch.”
