Tottenham first-teamer showers praise over 26-year-old French League star

Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris has had an incredible year for both club and country in 2018/19.

The Frenchman first captained his country to a World Cup win, before leading Tottenham to their first ever Champions League final.

However, Lloris is now 32-years-old and is surely coming towards the end of his Spurs career, so who could take over the number one spot?

Paulo Gazzaniga would have to be favourite, with Lloris’ understudy impressing on numerous occasions when called upon.

However, Lloris has been showering praise over 26-year-old Nice shot-stopper Walter Benitez this week.

A former Nice player himself, Hugo Lloris still keeps an eye on the club at which he came through the ranks at, and he has certainly been impressed by Benitez this season.

The Nice keeper boasted an impressive 17 clean sheets in all competitions for Nice in 2018/19, with the club finishing seventh in the league.

Who knows, perhaps Lloris could be recommending Benitez to Pochettino in the future.

Hugo said (Nice-Matin): “He was fantastic. He contributed to the success of the team and their good season.

“He gained a lot of points all by himself. I also like his personality, his humility.”
