Tottenham Hotspur have received some good news as they attempt to push through a statement deal for Mateus Fernandes.
Having raided their London rivals for Mohammed Kudus last summer, the Lilywhites are now looking to poach another of West Ham’s best players 12 months on, following their relegation.
According to various reports, Spurs have reached an agreement with Fernandes, and are now working to strike an agreement with West Ham on the transfer fee.
However, Man United are going head-to-head with Tottenham for the 21-year-old, with the Red Devils not giving up on the former Southampton man.

Man United are not willing to meet the asking price for Tottenham target Mateus Fernandes
The Times have now offered an update on the battle between Spurs and United for the Portugal international.
The report asserts that while Michael Carrick’s side are keen on taking Fernandes to Old Trafford, the club are simply refusing to meet West Ham’s £80 asking price.
Spurs fans will be hoping that the Red Devils’ reluctance to pay that money opens the door for the Lilywhites to complete the deal. However, Tottenham would need to shatter their transfer record to land the youngster.
Spurs willing to offer more in salary and wages for Fernandes
Interestingly, a different report from The Times last week claimed that Spurs are willing to offer a bigger transfer fee than United for Fernandes.
The report, which came from Gary Jacob, suggested that Spurs were also willing to offer the midfielder much better contract terms than the Red Devils.
The same information was backed up a few days ago by TEAMtalk, who claimed that Tottenham are willing to pay £65m plus £20m in add-ons for Fernandes.
