Tottenham Hotspur continue to work on a deal for Sandro Tonali and expect to finalise the deal swiftly after taking a big step this week.
Several outlets have reported over the last few days that Tonali has said ‘yes’ to Tottenham, who are now working to strike an agreement with Newcastle United.
Over the last few days, Roberto De Zerbi’s men have accelerated their efforts to land the Newcastle man, who is expected to leave St James’ Park before the start of the season.
The Lilywhites are now making progress towards a deal after reaching a full agreement with the player.
Tottenham confident about closing Sandro Tonali deal this week
SportMediaset now claim that Tottenham have reached a full agreement with the 26-year-old on a six-year contract.
Tonali has agreed terms with Spurs on the deal, which will see him earn €12m (£10.3m) per year, including bonuses, which would make him the highest earner in the North London club’s squad.
The report says that an agreement is yet to be reached between Spurs and Newcastle, with a gap remaining in their valuations.
However, Tottenham are said to be confident about clinching the deal for Tonali and are hoping to close it this week.
Tonali wants to honour his word to Roberto De Zerbi and Spurs
Over the past few days, some outlets have reported that Man City have been in regular contact with Tonali and have asked to be kept informed of his situation.
However, Gianluca Di Marzio revealed over the weekend that the Newcastle man is determined to honour his word to De Zerbi, having told the 46-year-old that he would join Tottenham.
Di Marzio claimed that Tonali is now ‘doing everything he can’ to persuade Newcastle to accept Spurs’ offer.
