Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly leapfrogged a Serie A giant in the race for a highly-rated centre-back ahead of the summer window.
While Spurs do not know what division they will be playing in next season, speculation suggests that some big names will be on their way out of Hotspur Way this summer, no matter what happens.
Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are allegedly on the radar of elite clubs, while several sources suggest that Luka Vuskovic is also generating plenty of interest on the back of his breakthrough season at Hamburg.
It has emerged over recent weeks that Spurs are ready to raid Sassuolo for their star defender, and the Lilywhites have just received some good news regarding their transfer pursuit.

Tottenham leapfrog Inter Milan in race for Tarik Muharemovic
A couple of days ago, an Italian outlet revealed that the Sassuolo chairman has travelled to London to hold transfer talks regarding Tottenham target Tarik Muharemovic
This information has been backed up by Corriere dello Sport, who say that Inter were close to agreeing a deal for the 23-year-old centre-back.
The Nerazzurri and Sassuolo looked set to agree a fee between €25m-€30m (£21.7m-£26m) for Muharemovic, but Giovanni Carnevalini’s (the Neroverdi chairman) recent trip to London is described as a ‘major problem’ for Inter.
It is explained that Carnevalini made the trip to the English capital to agree a deal for the centre-back, with Tottenham named as the ‘likeliest candidate’ to sign the player.
The outlet adds that it is no longer a question of whether Muharemovic will be sold, but more so which club he will end up in this summer.
Other Premier League clubs could challenge Spurs for Muharemovic
Tottenham are not the only English side considering a move for the 23-year-old ahead of the summer window.
Some sources have suggested that Bournemouth and Aston Villa could challenge Spurs for Muharemovic’s signature, with the Cherries and the Villans keen to reinforce their backline.
Additionally, it has been widely confirmed that Juventus hold a 50 per cent sell-on clause on the Tottenham target, which could end up affecting Sassuolo’s demands for their star defender.
