United are keeping a close eye on the Forest man’s situation and are expected to step up their pursuit of the player.
The Red Devils are determined to improve their options at the back ahead of their return to the Champions League, and they could soon submit ‘a formal offer’ for Williams.
It was previously reported that Old Trafford would be the Wales international’s preferred destination this summer.
Williams holding off on a new Nottingham Forest contract
Football Insider says that the Mildands club have ambitious plans for their future and have held contract talks with the full-back.
However, there is a feeling at the City Ground that Williams could hold off signing a new deal until later in the window.
