Tottenham Hotspur failed with an offer for a two-time title-winning Serie A star earlier this month.
Spurs’ priority is to significantly reinforce their attack before the end of the transfer window, but the club are also thought to be contemplating additions in other areas.
It was reported by a Tottenham insider a few weeks ago that the Lilywhites could add another midfielder to their squad if they sell both Pape Sarr and Lucas Bergvall.
It has now emerged that Roberto De Zerbi’s side did try to push through a deal for an experienced Slovak midfielder.

Tottenham failed with a move for Stanislav Lobotka
According to a report in Il Mattino, Tottenham stepped forward to explore a deal for Napoli’s Stanislav Lobotka earlier this month.
In fact, it is alleged that they made an offer to the 31-year-old, whose current deal at Naples has just one year left.
However, Lobotka turned that down and decided that he wanted to remain at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
The midfielder is keen on signing a new contract at the Serie A club, and Napoli CEO Aurelio de Laurentiis is now working on extending the experienced midfielder’s current deal.
Why Spurs’ interest in Lobotka does not pass the sniff test
It is clear that this summer, Tottenham are prioritising Premier League-proven players who are closer to the start of their careers or at a peak age.
The idea that they suddenly decided to push ahead with a move for Lobotka makes little sense, especially given that they are well stocked for options in midfield.
This information may have come from the Slovakia international’s agent to strengthen the player’s position ahead of contract talks with Napoli.
