Tottenham on the wrong end of a ‘complicated situation’ that could cost them £17m

Tottenham star Guglielmo Vicario continues to wait for Juventus to push ahead with a move for him after beginning pre-season training at Spurs.

The writing has seemed on the wall for the Italy international at Tottenham since Antonin Kinsky was backed with a new contract and Martin Dubravka was signed as his backup.

Despite Vicario being heavily linked with a move to Juventus since the start of the summer, the goalkeeper does not seem particularly close to sealing a move to Turin yet.

It appears that the 29-year-old would have to wait a while longer to get his preferred transfer, due to the ongoing complications at the Serie A club.

Juventus have to solve ‘complicated situation’ before signing Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham

Earlier this week, it was reported that Tottenham’s asking price of €15m to €20m (£12.7m-£17m) for Vicario is considered ‘too high’ by Juve.

The same update explained that the Old Lady have to sell goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio to fund a move for the Spurs star.

However, La Stampa journalist Fabio Riva has now revealed that the Serie A giants are struggling to find a buyer for their number one.

Riva told Radio Bianconera (as relayed by TuttoJuve) about Juve’s goalkeeping situation: “It’s a fairly complicated situation. A series of events have come together that have inevitably made it really difficult for Carnevali (Juve’s sporting director) to manage the situation.

“The facts tell us that Juventus now has a starting goalkeeper they need to sell, even more so after what happened a few weeks ago with his agent. Beyond the classic dynamics of a negotiation where everyone is pushing for their own ends, complications have also arisen in terms of the team’s balance. Furthermore, Di Gregorio is coming off a poor season and is therefore not an attractive option.”

Juve would ideally like to sign Vicario on loan

Riva admitted that among the various goalkeepers on the Bianconeri’s radar, the Tottenham star is the one he would prefer to take over the number one shirt at the Allianz Stadium.

However, the journalist suggested that Juve may ideally prefer to sign Vicario on loan rather than a permanent deal, given their current financial predicament.

He added: “Then there’s the difficulty of signing a quality player to replace him. After what happened with Alisson, the Martinez option has become decidedly more challenging. The goalkeeper deal is a tough nut to crack, as evidenced by the fact that Carnevali has so many different names and players on his radar. Initially, there were top-tier players like Alisson and Svilar, then Martinez arrived, joined by Vicario and Suzuki.

“Of all the options, I think Vicario is a much more interesting one than he might seem. He’s coming off a poor season, but he’d performed very well before that. He has personality and charisma, so I’d bet on him. The ideal would be to take him on loan, especially since there are certain financial constraints that must be met.”
