Tottenham reach agreement in principle with Cody Gakpo and net spend leaves room for big bid

Tottenham Hotspur have taken a major step in their pursuit of Cody Gakpo after making contact with the Dutchman.

Tottenham Hotspur are now stepping up their pursuit of Cody Gakpo this summer transfer window.

The Lilywhites have long had the Dutchman on their shortlist, but with little time left before the summer window slams shut, efforts are now being made to get Gakpo over to north London.

Reports have it that Tottenham have now made contact with Gakpo and Liverpool in order to push for a deal over the next two weeks.

Tottenham and Cody Gakpo take next step towards transfer

Gakpo is said to be open to a move to Tottenham, while Liverpool are yet to respond to Spurs’ interest this summer.

The Reds are believed to be looking to complete the signings of wide forwards before sanctioning the sale of the Dutchman.

However, according to reports from VI.nl, an agreement in principle is now understood to have been reached between Tottenham and Cody Gakpo.

As a result of this agreement, Spurs’ chances of landing the Dutchman are now believed to have increased significantly.

Spurs’ £32m net spend gives room for Gakpo and Savinho push

However, while an agreement has been reached with Gakpo, it is further explained that Spurs have not made any offers yet for the 27-year-old.

Roberto De Zerbi is keen on working with Gakpo, and a move for the Liverpool man is not expected to affect Spurs’ pursuit of Savinho, who is also on their radar.

Tottenham do have the cash to spend this summer, especially after selling 10 players and receiving a remarkable £204.2 million.

That means Tottenham have technically only spent £32 million this summer when their expenditure in transfers is subtracted from their income so far.
