Another senior Tottenham Hotspur star has reportedly signed a new contract, following Pedro Porro and Ben Davies, thus expressing his commitment to Roberto De Zerbi’s project.
Pedro Porro extended his deal with Tottenham until 2030 before the World Cup, and that has proven to be arguably the North London club’s best piece of business this summer.
As expected, the Spurs right-back has been mooted as a target for some of Europe’s biggest clubs on the back of his showing in the World Cup, and Tottenham may have found it difficult to keep him had he not signed at the start of the summer.
Now, another senior Tottenham defender, who is expected to be one of the linchpins of the team under De Zerbi, has also extended his stay at the club.
Tottenham reach verbal agreement on new deal with Micky van de Ven
Over the last 24 hours, there have been plenty of reports suggesting Spurs are nearing an agreement with Micky Van de Ven on a new deal.
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that the Lilywhites have reached a full agreement with the Dutchman on a long-term contract, adding that the defender has never been for sale this summer.
Romano wrote on X: “Tottenham reach verbal agreement on new deal with Micky van de Ven! Same process as Pedro Porro: key players for De Zerbi and the club, never been for sale this summer. New long-term contract with salary rise agreed at THFC.”
Roberto De Zerbi played a key role in convincing Van de Ven to stay at Spurs
According to BBC Sport, Van de Ven’s new deal will be a five-year one, with the website revealing that the player seriously considered his future at Spurs before De Zerbi walked through the door at the start of April.
Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs has said that the Italian played an important role in convincing the Netherlands international to commit himself to the ongoing project at the club.
Jacobs wrote on X: “Roberto De Zerbi has played a key role in convincing the Dutch defender to stay. Van de Ven’s clear priority has been to extend following Spurs’ Premier League survival. Nothing in Barcelona or Liverpool links for this summer. Extension talks accelerated after Spurs stayed up with De Zerbi reiterating to Van de Ven his importance to the team.”
