Tottenham Hotspur have just made a big statement by tying down one of their most important players to a new contract, amid interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world.

Regular readers of Spurs Web will be aware that Manchester City have been credited with an interest in Pedro Porro, but Tottenham have seemingly prevented Enzo Maresca’s side from clinching a deal.

Roberto De Zerbi is extremely keen on keeping Porro at the club, and it emerged over recent days that Tottenham were making advances in contract negotiations with the right-back.

Fabrizio Romano also reported that Pedro Porro was edging closer to signing a four-year deal with Spurs.

Pedro Porro set to be one of the highest earners in Tottenham squad

Tottenham Hotspur have now officially announced that Pedro Porro has put pen to paper on a new ‘long-term contract’ with the North London club.

The Athletic report says that Porro, who is currently at the World Cup and had two years left on his Spurs deal, has locked in his future until 2030. Porro will become one of the highest-paid players in the Tottenham squad.

The former Sporting Lisbon star used to earn £85,000 per week, which put him around the middle of the pack at Spurs, with the club’s highest earners being paid around £150,000 to £200,000 per week.

One would assume that Porro is likely now earning similar amounts to the likes of Conor Gallagher, James Maddison, and Xavi Simons.

One stat underlines Porro’s importance to Spurs

Porro created 53 chances for Tottenham last season, which is more than any of his teammates.

In fact, the right-back is a long way ahead of Xavi Simons (34) and Mathys Tel (30), who are the second and third on the list of chances created.

Tottenham sporting director, Johan Lange, reacted to the contract news. He said: “Securing Pedro’s future was an important priority for us this summer.

“During the past three-and-half years, he has made huge progress to become one of the best full-backs in the game, and the fact he is about to play in the World Cup for Spain is testament to that.

“Pedro is at an age where he can provide leadership and experience, while still having room for further development.

“His character, work ethic and quality are exactly what we look for when building a squad capable of competing at the highest level and we are delighted that he has chosen to continue his journey with the Club.”
