Tottenham receive Marcos Senesi boost but are warned Cherries star is not a ‘top player’

Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Marcos Senesi may have just got easier following the latest update from Italy about the centre-back.

Spurs Web has relayed a number of reports over the past few weeks suggesting that Tottenham are in close contact with Senesi’s representatives regarding a free transfer to N17 this summer.

Last Friday, David Ornstein revealed that Tottenham had moved into pole position to land Senesi and were holding advanced talks over signing the Argentine.

However, the journalist made clear that nothing is agreed yet and that the defender’s move to N17 would be contingent on the Lilywhites remaining in the Premier League.

Juventus will no longer challenge Tottenham for Marcos Senesi

The North Londoners are expected to face plenty of competition for the centre-back, with Juventus named as one of the clubs battling Spurs for Senesi’s signature.

However, TuttoMercatoWeb have now revealed that while Juve are keen on adding a top centre-back to their squad this summer to partner Gleison Bremer, the Bournemouth man is no longer at the top of their wishlist.

This is because manager Luciano Spalletti does not consider the 28-year-old as a ‘top player’ or automatic starter in his defence, with the Bianconeri only seeing Senesi as an option in the event of Lloyd Kelly’s departure.

As a result, the Serie A giants are not expected to submit a bid for the Cherries star, which comes as good news for the Lilywhites.

Spurs face competition from Premier League clubs for Senesi

TMW say that the race for the centre-back’s signature is heating up, and there could be an ‘auction’ between Tottenham, Aston Villa and Manchester United, all of whom are fans of the player.

However, according to a recent update by Ben Jacobs, Chelsea and Liverpool are not expected to challenge Spurs for Senesi, despite being initially credited with an interest in the defender.

It has been revealed that the Tottenham target wants to finalise his next destination before the end of the season.
