Djed Spence is on the verge of completing a move to Inter Milan, and Tottenham Hotspur stand to receive a slightly higher fee than what some sources have suggested.
It has been widely reported over the last few days that Spence is nearing a £26m move to Inter ahead of the new campaign.
Some Spurs fans are of the opinion that the club should have held out for a bigger fee for the full-back, given his heroics for England at the recent World Cup.
Tottenham insider, Szyexcel, has said that the Lilywhites’ low valuation of Spence is due to Roberto De Zerbi not rating him highly.
Tottenham to retain sell-on clause on Djed Spence
Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has now confirmed that the 25-year-old is now undergoing his medical ahead of his switch to the San Siro.
However, he claimed that the fee agreed between the two clubs is £30m rather than the reported £26m, and that Spurs have also retained a 10 per cent sell-on clause on the player.
Bridge wrote on X: “Inter Milan & Spurs reach agreement over the transfer of Djed Spence. £30m total package. Understand there is a 10% sell-on. Spence already in Milan to complete medical.”
Why Spurs will not get to keep the full £30m for Spence
According to a report in The Northern Echo, Middlesbrough retain a 15 per cent sell-on clause on the Tottenham man.
That means that they could be owed £4.5m of the fee that Spurs receive for Spence, with the Lilywhites potentially just getting £25.5m.
However, having attached a sell-on clause, Tottenham will be confident of getting a few more million out of the full-back in the future.
According to reports, Spurs are now scouring the market for a new right-back to serve as Pedro Porro’s backup.
