A Tottenham academy winger has officially exited the club for a seven-figure fee, further offsetting the Lilywhites’ summer spending.
The departures of Luka Vuskovic, Alejo Veliz, Radu Dragusin and Alfie Devine had already raked in plenty of cash, with the four players being sold by Spurs for a combined £85.1m.
That means that despite having a transfer outlay of £237m on six new players, Tottenham’s net spend only stood at just under £152m prior to today.
Spurs’ net spend has now further reduced after a Premier League rival poached an exciting academy star from Hotspur Way.
Tynan Thompson completes £8m move from Tottenham to Man United
It was widely reported over the last few days that Man United were pushing to land Tynan Thompson, who had been one of the standout players for the Lilywhites’ youth sides last season.
The 18-year-old winger, who scored seven goals in seven UEFA Youth League outings last term, has now officially sealed a switch to Man United.
This has been confirmed by Alasdair Gold, who revealed that the Red Devils agreed a fee worth £4m, plus another £4m in add-ons, while also retaining a 20 per cent sell-on clause on the teenager.
That means that Tottenham have now raised £93.1m through player sales, bringing their net spend to around £144m for the summer.
The journalist further revealed that Tottenham have retained a right to match any future bid for Thompson.
Familial reasons and first-team football promise tempted Thompson to Man United
Gold also revealed in his post that the 18-year-old had a difficult year due to personal circumstances, and that his family decided to relocate.
The journalist said on X: “Man United have signed Tynan Thompson from Spurs for £4m + £4m in add-ons, with a 20% sell-on clause on later profit plus matching rights on future bids. After such a difficult year with personal circumstances, the family wanted to relocate from the area. He’s a terrific talent.”
Meanwhile, journalist Samuel Luckhurst has stated that Michael Carrick’s side proposed Thompson “first-team integration” to tempt him into a move to Old Trafford.
