Tottenham Hotspur remain in the hunt for Antonio Vergara, though Napoli are still intent on keeping the midfielder, who played just 12 league games last season.
Tottenham Hotspur are naturally turning their attention to strengthening their attack after bolstering both their midfield and defence this summer.
There remains a clear need for a left winger, with Spurs having failed to adequately replace Heung-min Son following his departure last summer.
A centre-forward is also on Tottenham’s radar, with Eli Junior Kroupi emerging as the club’s preferred target during this summer’s transfer window.

Tottenham linked with Antonio Vergara as Napoli respond
Adding both a new centre-forward and a left winger could cost Tottenham a significant outlay, with Kroupi valued at around £85 million and a left-sided attacker expected to cost between £60 million and £70 million, depending on whether Spurs pursue Savinho or Cody Gakpo.
Area Napoli is now reporting that Tottenham have also set their sights on an attacking midfielder this summer.
Antonio Vergara is the player in question, although Spurs are facing stiff competition from Atalanta, AS Roma, Bournemouth and Como.
With interest in the attacking midfielder continuing to grow, the report explains that Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has scheduled a meeting with Vergara’s agent.
Napoli are determined not to lose the player, with a meeting due to take place at 4pm Italian time on Monday, during which a possible contract renewal will be discussed.
However, the newspaper also states that another offer worth €25 million (£21.6 million), plus bonuses, is expected to arrive. Napoli are said to feel threatened by the growing interest but have no intention of allowing the player to leave.
Spurs already have plenty of midfield options
Spurs are certainly well stocked in midfield at the moment, which raises the question of whether they need Vergara at all.
At present, Tottenham have Rodrigo Bentancur, James Maddison, Sandro Tonali, Conor Gallagher, Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, Pape Matar Sarr and Xavi Simons, who is currently sidelined through injury, as options in the centre of the pitch.
A midfield this strong simply does not require any more additions, particularly one with Vergara’s recent injury record.
