Tottenham Hotspur will not find it easy to convince Benfica to part ways with Andreas Schjelderup over the coming weeks.
Schjelderup has been heavily linked with a move to N17 over the last month after the 22-year-old backed up an impressive 2025-26 season for Benfica with an outstanding showing in the World Cup.
The winger notched up a goal and four assists for Norway, being one of the Scandinavian side’s standout players as they made it to the quarterfinal stage in North America.
Tottenham have been in talks with Benfica over the pacy wide-man and have submitted an offer for the player over the last 24 hours.
A ‘truly extraordinary’ offer would be required for Tottenham to sign Andreas Schjelderup
Spurs Web previously relayed reports from Portugal suggesting that Tottenham have submitted a €55m (£47.4m) offer for Schjelderup.
Out of that, €45m (£38.8m) is thought to be a guaranteed fee, with the remaining €10m (£8.6m) in bonuses for the Norway international.
A new report in Record (as relayed by Sport Witness) has claimed that Benfica’s position is that only a ‘truly extraordinary’ offer would persuade the club to consider selling Schjelderup.
The update does not say whether Tottenham Hotspur’s alleged £47.4m offer is considered ‘extraordinary’ or what Benfica’s valuation of the player is.
However, the publication adds that Marco Silva has no desire to contemplate Schjelderup’s departure, regarding him as one of the ‘cornerstones’ of his project.
The former Fulham boss believes that the winger has reached ‘a different level’ over recent months and could be one of Benfica’s most influential players during the upcoming campaign.
Former Norway international believes Schjelderup wants to leave Benfica
The speculation over the 22-year-old’s future is also understandably big news in Norway on the back of his impressive showing in the World Cup.
Former Norway international Bernt Hulsker has opined that Schjelderup is well-suited for Benfica, but believes the youngster wants a new challenge for the upcoming campaign.
Hulsker told Dagbladet (via Sport Witness): “Benfica is a club that suits him well. They gave him a lot of responsibility, and he became a star. I think he wants to take the next step now.”
